Woods Reservoir is formed by the impounding of Elk River by the Elk River Dam.
Woods Reservoir was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for the U.S. Air Force, with construction of Woods Reservoir Dam across the Elk River, near Tullahoma, Tennessee. Completed in 1952, the lake provides cooling water for the aeronautical testing facilities at Arnold Air Force Base.
